With summer drawing ever nearer, the time is nigh to start dusting off your picnic blankets and prepare to fill your hampers to the brim for you to enjoy the ultimate indulgence of dining alfresco. Here in the Minter-Monk abode, the slightest sign of the sun breaking through the clouds and you can bet your bottom dollar that I’m running to the cupboard to gather up the goods, while Joe preps the food (he’s a dab hand at cooking let me tell you) as we rush outside to get our fix of the British sun. Because let’s face it, we all know that you’ve gotta grab it while you can.
Growing up, it’s instilled into us that we always have our breakfast, lunch and dinner. At school, we have a proper lunch break. At home, our parents ensure that we stop and sit down to eat our food. But, when you reach adulthood, everything we have ever known seems to get chucked out the window when it comes to giving ourselves a proper break. At least, it did in my case. I get the guilt. I don’t let myself have a proper break, because I’m always so aware that there’s something that needs doing.

Since being made redundant, I’ve been trying to get back into the routine of stopping and taking a bit of time out, so that when I go back into working full time I’m in a healthier routine. Joe is self-employed so you can imagine the worry that we had of both working from home full time, confined to the four walls of the flat together 24/7. But actually, we’ve been really good at giving each other space, while making sure that neither of us works straight through the day without stopping (guilty). Whether it’s been a quick cuppa and snack on the sofa, sitting at the table and having some dinner, or embracing the sun and dining outside, it’s been so nice to actually stop and call time out, giving myself the chance to recharge.
Now, I have a confession to make. I’m a sweet tooth fiend. Lately I’ve been making a conscious effort to be good, getting back into the gym and trying to make better food choices, but try as I might, I always need a little summit summit to kick my cravings (and stop me diving face first into the biscuit barrel). We recently discovered the chilled Bounty Milk Snacks and oh my, to say that they are divine is an understatement. I’m a big Bounty lover, but to be honest I’m never usually a fan of cake bars, so I was a little worried that I wouldn’t be on board. But, the moist chocolate sponge, teamed with a thick layer of chocolate are a match made in heaven. Complete with a creamy coconut mousse that takes chill time to a whole other level.

Each pack contains four individually wrapped Bounty Milk Snacks, making them perfect for sharing (she says!). So, whether you’re relaxing at home, looking for a sweet tooth satisfying snack or fancy a little tropical addition to your picnic hamper, the Bounty Milk Snacks are the perfect way to treat yourself to a little slice of paradise.
Available from 29 May, from Sainsbury’s. RRP. £2.00.
