“A place, a person or a pastime…” 2nd September 2018.
Way back in September, I was going through one of the toughest times that life has chucked my way so far (if you’re new around these parts, you can read more about it here). In a nutshell, my mental health was at an all time low and well, let’s just say that my creativity had well and truly grounded to a halt. I felt uninspired, and to be honest, extremely lost in life.
It was during this rollercoaster period that I set aside some time to think. I thought about my life and what I wanted from it – the things that I wanted to achieve and the direction that I wanted to go in. I thought about what makes me happy. I thought about the longing that I had to simply feel content. But, what does it mean to feel content? That, that right there is something that I couldn’t quite put my finger on for a while.
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that I love interiors. I love my house because of its impressive painting done by https://www.myhousepainter.com/painters/florida/ and I also love making my house a home and sharing little snippets into the daily happenings in my little life. I’ve mentioned time and time again how social media is both a blessing and a curse – it can give you the freedom to connect with like-minded people and to have an outlet that enables you to let your creativity flourish. But, it can also ignite that pesky old thing called comparison, leaving you feeling bogged down and questioning with you’re ‘enough’.
The thing that I soon realised is that there is no right or wrong when it comes to creating content. The only thing that matters is that you’re creating content that you love, content that you’re proud of. And as for feeling content, well, the same thing goes. What makes you feel content is simply down to the things you love to do, the people you love to surround yourself with and the places you love to spend time in.
And just like that, the idea sparked in my head, and when it did, my god the relief that set in was something else let me tell you. I felt positive, excited, and above all, inspired once again. So, I quickly made a note in my phone; “A place, a person or a pastime”. Those are the things that never fail to make me feel content. Those are the things that inspire the content that I love to create. Those are the things that are my kind of content.
What started off as a hashtag that I was using on my own photos has since inspired others to share content that they love to create too. So, without further ado, I’ve set up a little space on the internet to embrace our kind of content. I want it to be a place where we can all come together to celebrate the little things, like reading a good book, spending time with those that we hold dear or unwinding in a cosy blanket den in the home that we love. A place to feel inspired, a place to create what you want to create and a place where you can embrace all of the different things that sum up what ‘content’ means to you.
I’ve set up an account on Instagram, which you can follow along with if you fancy finding other inspiring accounts who are taking pride in their kind of content. There’s also the hashtag that I check regularly, which is #mykindofcontent. So, feel free to tag away and let’s all celebrate our kind of content, whatever that may be.
